Evaluation 8 Audience Feedback

I showed our film to a few friends and other media students. They gave me both positive and negative feedback.
Some of the feedback was:

” Great work, I really liked the editing (black and white filter) and different shots.”

“Fantastic acting and I liked the shots”.

“The black and white filter really makes it film noir and seem way older”.

“Well done!”

Evaluation 8: Audience Feedback

Evaluation 7 – Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at tour preliminary task I feel like I have learnt a lot about the different shots and how different film genres have different shots in them. During the progress of filming we changed a lot of things, we changed our location because it wasn’t light enough, we also added multiple shots for example we didn’t plan to film the shot threw the tree (which is one of my favorite shots personally).

Evaluation 6 – What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Technology plays a huge part in producing a movie. The most important are

Camera:

WE needed the camera to film our opening movie.

Blog:

We used the blog to publish our projects and it helped us stay on task.

Youtube:

On this social media site we published our videos and later on posted them on our blog. We also mused it as our source of motivation. We watched countless youtube film noir videos to get an idea of what we wanted to do. For example facial expressions or what kind of music fits best.

Imovie:
We used this to edit our videos, trimming clips , add music, add titles, and most importantly add the black and white filter.

Evaluation 5 – How did you attract/ Adress your audience?

In my opinion one of the main attractions was the bold but simple title “dans le noir”. After the murder has happened, the killer disappears into the dark (night, like it says in the title). At the beginning of the clip we used long shots, bird eye view shots, low angle shot to follow the victim. I think this attracted the audience because they wanted to know what will happen next and where he is going. For the detective scene we got detective outfits to make it seem realistic and for the audience to really think that they are looking for evidence.

Evaluation 3 – What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Our choice of logo & choice of production name:
We used a stairway as our visual picture because the name of our production coup is called Stairway production. We all liked the idea of a stairway to heaven and thought it had something mysterious which fits to the genre film noir.

Why production companies are important:

Production companies such as Universal Studio (which we choose) provide the essential platform to distribute and fund such big budget movies. Universal Studio has worked with some of the most amazing movies such as “Black Angel” (1946).8253cab3-9792-4084-86b6-5241c25df3f1

EVALUATION TASK 1- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Below are the 9 Key Shots taken from our final edit. These include:

The title of the film
The setting
Costumes
Camera work and editing
Front and style
Story/narrative
Genre and suggestions of it
Characters
Special FX

Front and style: We used bold and old fronts because the film noir movies we watched all had such.

Bildschirmfoto 2016-03-10 um 13.00.07

Costume: I have chosen this screenshot as it shows the victims and the murderers outfit and we do not have a group shot of all the costumes. The victim is wearing everyday cloths (a warm jacket because it was late at night). The murder is wearing similar cloths except he is also wearing a hat to hide his identity. The detectives are both wearing long coats.Bildschirmfoto 2016-03-10 um 12.59.33

The Setting: The Setting we have chosen was at multiple places. In the first few shots the victim walks throw houses and empty streets, he then paces a big tree and arrives at the murder scene which is in front of a house. We chose this setting as the houses were all dark and it made the effect dark mysterious atmosphere.Bildschirmfoto 2016-03-10 um 12.51.30

Camera Work and Editing: We used the black and white filter to make it more film noir. Also we used a various range of shots for example a low angle shot. We tried to use the traditional film noir shots.

Bildschirmfoto 2016-03-10 um 12.53.39

Characters: Three of our characters are Drama A-level students which means they have had experience. The only thing which is unrealistic is the age of the actors.

Bildschirmfoto 2016-03-10 um 12.54.53

Special FX: We added a few sound effects to add tension and make the clip more film noir. Other film  noir movies I watched had similar music in them.

Bildschirmfoto 2016-03-09 um 11.55.31

Genre and Suggestions of it: We choose film noir because my group liked the idea of filming a black and white movie as we have never done something like that. If i could change anything it would be the location because I don’t think it is mysterious enough. But I am please overall with the outcome.

Story/Narrative: This screenshot shows the victim and the murderer. In this shot the deed is already done and the murderer is checking the victims pulse while he is calling an unknown character. Later on we find out that he called his boss who gave him the mission to kill him.

Titel: : In this screenshot our main title is shown. We shot it so that the murder disappears into the dark of the night. The camera followed the murderer as soon as he disappears the title”Dans Le Noir” appears. We chose big capital letters to make it more outstanding.
